The Jakarta Cathedral, located between Banteng Square and Istiqlal Mosque, is one of other Jakarta\\\’s iconic buildings, which, during the Dutch colonial period was called Waterloo Square in Central Jakarta. The construction was started in 1891 and like any other church back on that era, the architectural style was adopting gothic revival or neo-gothic. Sound\\\’s like an interesting spot to sketch right?
So, I took the commuter line from Cawang Station to Juanda Station and proceed to the cathedral on foot. I sat down on the other side of the cathedral, near the main entrance of Istiqlal Mosque actually, to expand my visibility and seeing the building thoroughly.
The surrounding was pretty crowded by the people and the street vendors that made me move my spot for a couple of time.
The Steps
1. Pencil Sketch
Sketching by pencil for me is an important step if you\\\’re not used to painting directly using a brush or even drawing pen. You can drafting whether you will draw or not the object into your paper.
2. Inking
After you\\\’re done drafting, use drawing pen to start inking and clearing up the line.
3. Add Colors
This is the exiting step. Using the watercolor pallet, brush and water, paint your previous sketch into a colorful artwork.
Have fun!
